On May 7, 2026, Ateneo de Manila University officially inaugurated and blessed the SPARK-COIL Laboratory at The Hive, Areté, marking an important milestone in the advancement of globally connected and hybrid-ready education in the Philippines.

What is SPARK-COIL?

SPARK-COIL, or Strengthen and Promote Academic Agility, Resilience, and Knowledge Exchange through Collaborative Online International Learning, is an international initiative co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

The project aims to strengthen global collaboration in education by helping universities integrate Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) into their academic programs. Through COIL, students and educators from different countries engage in shared virtual learning experiences, collaborative projects, intercultural discussions, and international classroom activities without the limitations of physical distance.

The initiative reflects the growing global movement toward connected, flexible, and hybrid learning environments that prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world.

The Philippine Consortium Behind SPARK-COIL
