The Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Education (AdZU SED) officially inaugurated the SPARK-COIL Laboratory, its newest smart classroom facility designed to strengthen Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiatives and advance technology-integrated pedagogy.

 

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Room C311 was led by Fr. Rene C. Tacastacas, SJ, Vice President for Higher Education, together with Ms. Perla “Arlene” S. Ledesma, COIL Champion and member of the AdZU SPARK-COIL Team, and Ms. Pilar C. Agraviador, Regional Project Manager. The Blessing of the Laboratory followed, formally dedicating the space to academic excellence and mission-driven service.

The inauguration program opened with Words of Welcome from Ms. Ledesma, reaffirming AdZU’s commitment to expanding global learning opportunities. Ms. Karen C. Sunico, Director for Partnerships and Engagement of Ateneo de Manila University and Lead Coordinator of the SPARK-COIL Project, joined the celebration via Zoom, emphasizing that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure fostered through openness, creativity, and cross-institutional collaboration.

 

Ms. Agraviador delivered Words of Gratitude, acknowledging the collaborative efforts behind the project, including the AdZU SPARK-COIL Team, the Center for Information and Technology Services (CITS), the Physical Plant Office (PPO), the Property Custodian Office (PCO), the Finance Office, and the College of Science, Information Technology, and Engineering (CSITE).

 

Smart Classroom System Designed and Installed by Lisa Tech Philippines

The SPARK-COIL Laboratory’s smart classroom system was designed and installed by Lisa Tech Philippines, led by Founder and CEO Elijah John Uy Lao, together with the Lisa Tech Team.

The installation includes a fully integrated smart classroom setup engineered for hybrid collaboration, interactive digital learning, and seamless global connectivity that supports AdZU’s COIL initiatives under the Erasmus+ co-funded SPARK-COIL Project.

Lisa Tech believes that smart classroom systems must not only integrate advanced technology, but also align with institutional goals, faculty workflows, and international collaboration standards. The SPARK-COIL Laboratory reflects this approach by combining infrastructure, pedagogy, and global engagement in one purpose-built learning environment.

The SPARK-COIL Project (“Strengthen and Promote Academic Agility, Resilience, and Knowledge Exchange through Collaborative Online International Learning”) connects Ateneo universities in the Philippines with European partner institutions, including WSB University (Poland) and the University of Alicante (Spain).

More than a new facility, the SPARK-COIL Laboratory represents AdZU’s continued investment in preparing future educators for a digitally connected, globally collaborative world.
